A Message from the LWV Grosse Pointe President

League of Women Voters Celebrates 88th Birthday

The League of Women Voters will celebrate its 88th birthday on February 14, 2008 with a renewed commitment to help Americans get involved in their democracy in 2008.

We acknowledge and celebrate the generations of incredible volunteers who have proudly served in the League and made a measurable impact on our community, said League of Women Voters of Grosse Pointe president, Wilhelmina Giblin, also noting that "the League is the organization where hands-on work leads to civic improvement".

We take seriously our legacy of providing trustworthy and balanced information to citizens and lawmakers, said Mrs. Giblin. Our dedicated members make sure voters are registered, educated and confident in the political process.

2008 will be a pivotal year and we encourage all Grosse Pointe residents to contact the League or visit our election website VOTE411.org to get involved in this historic process.

In the past year, the League has hosted five candidate forums, held meetings regarding food safety and immigration, and sponsored discussions concerning our Great Lakes. The League will host it's second leadership skills workshop for high school girls called "Running and Winning" on Friday, February 29, 2008.
